Who Are We?
Founder Heléne Leichter-Saxby has spent more than thirty years living in England and America. She is a former Country Innkeeper, Artists’ Representative and Author of Cooking Inn Style: A Collection of Country Inn Recipes from England, Ireland, Wales and New England.
In addition to Countryside Connection, Heléne also works with her husband Alan Saxby in their other rural business, Once Upon a Pine www.onceuponapine.co.uk. Together they create handcrafted furniture and home accessories including unusual clocks all created from reclaimed wood. They also offer one-of-a-kind art which combines unique selections from Vintage Women’s Magazines dating from 1912-1949; antique and vintage postcards; photographs and artists' drawings with select pieces of reclaimed wood. A range of cushions from their extensive collection of Vintage Fabrics will soon be available. Other vintage and collectible items from their many years of collecting have also proven to be very popular items.
All of the reclaimed wood used for their furniture is local, reclaimed from collapsing barns, a Georgian Stable Block, a Victorian Milking Parlour and other structures near their home in North Yorkshire. Their approach is an environmentally responsible one that offers the chance to create new objects which carry the marks of their former lives, crafted pieces that bring their history with them.

Featured Member: The Meadowlark Inn, in Brattleboro, Vermont, was originally a private homestead and working family farm, built in the 1870's. The Innkeepers, Lucia Osiecki and Deborah Jones, took over ownership of the Meadowlark Inn on July 31, 2002. They enjoy gardening and cooking and have attended the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. They incorporate local produce (including produce from their own gardens), syrup and eggs into their daily menus. Lucia and Debbie have a raised bed organic garden that provides vegetables, edible flowers and herbs for the table as well as fresh cut flowers for guestrooms and the Inn.
These wonderful innkeepers (featured above in the upper right hand corner) are dedicated to preserving the original parts of this wonderful home while providing visitors with modern comforts. Whether you visit during this glorious winter season, the majestic autumn, warm summer months or the spring season, a generous heartfelt welcome and stay awaits you.
Visit www.meadowlarkinnvt.com and arrange a visit with Lucia and Debbie as soon as possible. I promise you will be delighted that you did!
