Beckwood Pond "An English Inn in the Vermont Countryside"
We share our past history and Proudly Present a Selection of Today's Finest Accommodation Offerings throughout England, Vermont and other New England States, plus California and Florida.
In 1803, Asahel Webster, whose ancestors moved to America from Warwickshire, England, built a rambling Colonial Home for his large family in Southern Vermont. Asahel moved north to Vermont from Connecticut where one of his ancestors, John Webster, had been the fifth governor of Connecticut Colony. In 1999, our family returned to America from England and purchased that property which would become our own English Inn in Vermont while our daughter, Morgan, attended Vassar College. It seemed quite fitting that Alan, an Englishman and Heléne, born in Connecticut, should discover this extraordinary property that would welcome visitors from countries around the world. We created the name Beckwood Pond Inn to honour the stream, woodlands and the pond on our grounds. It is of note that in America, the words Inn and bed and breakfast are often used interchangeably. The word "inn" does not mean that meals other than breakfast are served or indeed, that food and drink are available other than in the morning to resident guests. Just as many of our members listed below, we did, however, take advantage of the size of our large home and extensive tiered gardens and grounds to offer intimate wedding ceremonies, civil unions and other celebratory events. Guests delighted in the afternoon teas and complimentary local wine, cheeses and homemade cakes, biscuits and sweets that were always on offer. A large platter of homebaked cookies always awaited guests upon their return. Visit our members' listings and learn about all of their unique offerings.
Any innkeeper will tell you that you must learn to expect the unexpected! To learn about one of the times we were caught off guard, please read: One snowy winter morning.

Bradford Place Inn and Gardens
The Bradford Place Inn was built in 1889 as a private home for a Wells Fargo agent and remained so until 1988 when it first opened as a bed and breakfast inn. In March 2000 it was christened Bradford Place Inn and Gardens when it reopened under the ownership of Dottie Musser.
In an ideal location right in the heart of historic downtown Sonora, next door to the county offices and impressive court house, circa 1898 you are minutes away from the wide variety of offerings here in the very heart of California’s Gold Country. Its lovely restored neighbourhood is one block west of Sonora's popular main street (Highway 49) lined with antique stores, art galleries and wonderful dining. The inn is also close to the gold rush villages of Columbia and Jamestown, about a twenty minute drive to the wineries, caverns and shops in and around Murphys and Angels Camp. Depending upon the weather and time of year, your choice of activities also include options such as a round of golf at one of three local championship courses, sailing on Pinecrest Lake as well as enjoying the perfect setting for a picnic or hiking.
The grandeur of Yosemite National Park, Calaveres Big Trees State Park, Columbia Historic State Park, Railtown State Park, Caves and Caverns to explore . . . your options are truly endless and awe-inspiring experiences await!
Bradford Place Inn and Gardens has been restored with meticulous care and attention to detail. Accommodations vary in size from cozy and intimate to gracious and luxurious with nearly every imaginable amenity, including a private climate control system in each guest room. If you cannot bear to tear yourself away from the comfort of your own room, Dottie is pleased to have your breakfast delivered to you. You may prefer to enjoy your selections from the extensive and diverse menu in the inn’s lovely breakfast room, or dine alfresco in warmer weather. The choice is yours.
AAA Three *** Rating Since 2000

Inn at Manchester
Innkeepers Frank and Julie Hanes purchased the historic Inn at Manchester in Vermont in December 2003. Discover its long and intriguing history on their website. The Inn offers 18 guestrooms, including 5 suites, spanning three floors of the main building as well as the historic Carriage House. The extensive list of amenities makes it clear that while carefully maintaining this wonderful old building to the highest standard, no modern conveniences have been overlooked. The comfort and enjoyment of each and every guest has been identified and provided for with obvious pride and pleasure.
It would be very tempting never to leave the comfort of the inn, but this area offers enticements that will be impossible to miss. Antique Shops and Centers abound, Music, Theatre and Art festivals are offered throughout the year, not to mention, skiing, fly fishing, golf, hiking and biking . . . Hildene, Robert Todd Lincoln’s estate is here in Manchester Village and with more than 50 Designer Outlet Shops this village is referred to throughout Vermont as ‘Fifth Avenue in the Mountains’(referring to the shops located on New York’s famous Fifth Avenue) Almost every national and international designer you can possibly name has a shop and offers prices you literally will not believe ~ this area is within walking distance of the inn and as the shops are all New England in style, it is more like strolling through town than shopping.
Prefer to simply relax at the inn? There are many options to choose from depending upon the season of the year; sit by one of the fireplaces in the winter, swim in the secluded outdoor swimming pool or stroll through the beautiful grounds in warmer weather. A visit in any season is a perfect time to catch up on the book you have been longing to find time to read or simply to sit quietly with your private thoughts or the special person who have come here to spend time with. Choose from one of the inn’s many hammocks, curl up on the comfy seating on the classic front porch or in the cozy Red Room tucked away for more peace and privacy, in the large inviting living room or their friendly fully licensed pub; all are among the reasons you feel spoiled for choice as a guest.
Please visit their additional listings in the following categories: Activities, Adventures & Sports, Pubs and Restaurants and Weddings, Conferences and Retreats.

Organic Holidays In The UK and Abroad
Whether you are visiting Bali, Italy, South Africa, Switzerland . . . you will discover a diverse range of options in this extraordinary website directory Linda Moss has created. Each Country Inn and Hotel is unique and they share one important thing in common, all are 'organic' places to stay. There is also an extensive list of properties throughout Britain and offerings in America from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic and many other states as diverse as Alaska and Montana.
Meals are prepared using local organic produce whenever possible. On average this will be at least 50% organic, but many offer a much higher percentage, up to 100% organic. An impressive number grow their own produce, others use wild or natural foods, and most will aim to use fresh local produce rather than imported food.
Around two thirds of the places listed in the directory offer meals, usually breakfast, but lunches and evening meals are often available as well. Many have their own small restaurant, a few of which are certified organic, while others may have a certified organic kitchen garden, orchard or vineyard.
Discover the joys of fresh local produce and specialities, slow food, home baking and cooking with new discoveries, enjoy homemade products such as jam, juice, ice cream, yogurt, cheese, pasta, pasta sauce, olive oil, wine - you'll find all these and more ...... Why limit your organic and local food experiences to your own town or village when this directory enables you to expand your horizons and excite your taste buds wherever your travels take you!
Prefer staying at a Bed and Breakfast or having the independence a Self-Catering accommodation provides when you are away from home? Please note that this directory is also featured in that category as many of the directory listings offer these types of accommodation. You will also find Linda’s Organic Holidays Directory on: http://www.organicplacestostay.com. (Note: Image shown is a hotel on the website located in Pembrokeshire)

The Wheatsheaf in Wensleydale
The Wheatsheaf is a core part of community life and is well supported
and much appreciated by a strong local trade. Add to this our excellent en-suite accommodations and you begin to build a picture of a relaxing and convivial venue for your break.
We care about all of our customers – residents, local and day visitors. All should enjoy high standards in the service, food, ales and hospitality that we offer. It is our experience that our locals enjoy meeting our guests and we know too that many guests appreciate the vitality of our busy bar. But there is a space for those who prefer more tranquillity.
It was at The Wheatsheaf in 1941 that James Herriot and his wife Helen spent their honeymoon. In his book he describes how much they enjoyed the warm hospitality and excellent food. Perhaps our best kept secret is the stay of Greta Garbo in early 1942 during a break from performances at nearby Catterick Garrison.
Today it is still a family owned hotel with proprietors Paul and Carol Mitchell offering the best of local cuisine and comfort. Please access the link to our website for full details and information.
